# Install the launcher

The Cesium Launcher is the only thing you install; it signs you in, downloads the client, and keeps it current.

The Cesium Launcher is the only thing you install; it signs you in, downloads the client, and keeps it current.

## Before you start

* A Cesium account with beta access. Get it from the Discord server at [cesiumclient.com/discord](https://discord.gg/3QBFFwbbH).
* Windows 10 or newer. The launcher is Windows only.

## Download and install

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Sign in to your dashboard and open the Download page.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
On the Cesium Launcher card, click Download for Windows. The current launcher is version 1.0.0.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Open the launcher and sign in with your Cesium account.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

The first time you load Cesium on a PC, that machine is registered to your account and the dashboard asks you to approve it. Read [Devices](/cesium-docs/account/devices.md) before you install on a second PC.

## What the launcher does after that

* It downloads the Cesium client for you. There is no separate client download.
* It updates the client on its own. When a new client version ships, the launcher fetches it the next time you open it, before the client starts.
* It shows you the state of the running game and the client once Cesium is loaded.

## If your antivirus complains

Programs that load code into another process are often flagged. Cesium builds are signed. See [Windows Defender or antivirus flagged the launcher](/cesium-docs/support/antivirus-flagged-launcher.md) for what to do.

## The old jar loader

Earlier versions of Cesium used a jar file (Cesium Loader 0.8, on Java 17). It is retired and cannot be downloaded. If you still have it, delete it and use the launcher.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://cesium.gitbook.io/cesium-docs/getting-started/install-the-launcher.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
